Welcome to the Fourth Annual Big Wave Dave Birthday Alt Event Extravaganza! The SURPRISE Edition!

Dave is busy saving us with plans to return schools to a safe post-COVID world, so welcome to the SURPRISE Fourth Annual Big Wave Dave’s Birthday Bash Alt Event Extravaganza! Please accept our cordial invitation and join us at Claremont High School (Home of the Wolfpack and Bargain Belt Invitationals) on Saturday, April 17th and Sunday, April 18th, 2021 for a fun weekend of competition. This tournament is only open to students in the 9th-12th grade. Which Alt events you ask? We will have an interesting blend of CHSSA, NSDA, and random events to help you warm up for both State and NSDA. In the spirit of new events and being able to take more students to Nationals, we have expanded our offering this year.

Events and Divisions
We will offer two speech patterns. Students may enter up to two events; one in each pattern. The NSDA Speech Pattern will feature Impromptu, following NSDA rules. The CHSSA Speech Pattern will feature Original Advocacy, Expos, Oratorical Interpretation, and SPAR (Claremont Rules). The speech pattern events will enjoy three rounds of competition with a final round, provided entry numbers are high enough to warrant it. If the speech entries are low, we have been known to make Speech Salad and combine them.

Awards and Recognition
Awards will be given to all students who advance to the final round of Speech events.

Entry Price

One event and parent is judging $70
One event and opting out of judging $180

Two events and parent is judging $80
Two events and opting out of judging $190

Each person in a PF team would be responsible of providing their own judge, so one PF team would need to either provide two judges, both pay the judge fee, or one of each option.

Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

NOTE: We will charge set up fees if we have to create tabroom.com accounts for judges. It is recommended you do so on your own.

Drop Fee

Drop fees will be the same amounts as the entry fee PLUS any fees the tournament charges us for late drops. Drop requests should be made to Victor and Nadia.

Please do not drop out last minute to avoid being charged these fees.

Tournaments recommend judges to have a judge philosophy on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example (it doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up).
