Greetings to all elementary school speech and debate clubs and schools! On Saturday, October 24th, 2020, we will be hosting the first elementary speech tournament of the 2020-2021 school year virtually. We hope your school or organization will join us!

    Online Tournament Guidelines:
-All competitors are required to have a guardian on screen. This is to ensure responsibility and safety.
-All participants (judges and competitors) are required to read this SCJFL Online Tournament Participation Best Practice document.

    Double-Entry Policy:
Competitors may not enter more than two events for any given pattern at any SCJFL tournament. Competitors may not double-enter in a pattern if they are also entered in any of the following events in the same pattern: Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Big Questions, Congress, and Extemp. Triple entry is not permitted.

    Pattern A Events:
    ●  Congress (Legislation click here)

    Pattern B Events:
    ● Informative (5 mins. – Audio-visual aids are optional)
    ● Original Oratory/Persuasive (5 mins.)

    Qualifications for Novice:
Per the bylaws, all students who have received a trophy in any event (regardless of what novice event they are applying to enter), are no longer eligible for a novice division.  Additionally, any students who have participated in more than four tournaments are no longer eligible for the novice division.

    Judging Requirements:
Parents can choose whether or not they want to participate and be a judge at this tournament. If you are not judging, you will pay an additional $70.

Judges will be responsible for their own judge training.
First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.
Teams who supply grossly unprepared judges will be charged a nuisance fee of $50.
If you signed up to be a judge but do not show up on the day of the tournament, you will be charged a $100 fine.

    Postings will be 100% online
Rules: All rules can be found in the SCJFL by-laws. Make sure to review it here.
