    Information

    Greetings to all elementary school speech and debate clubs and schools! On Saturday, February 27th, 2021, we will be hosting the third elementary speech tournament of the 2020-2021 school year. We hope your school or organization will join us. We are dedicating this tournament to Mr. Danny Cantrell who has made Online Tournament possible about 1 year ago. Thank you Danny!


    ATTENTION: GSA ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
    For those of you enrolled in our beginner elementary classes, you should choose Impromptu. This is the speech event that you have been working on in class.
    For those of you enrolled in our intermediate/advanced sessions, you have the option of choosing:
    • Informative speech
    • OO/Persuasive speech
    • Both Informative and OO/Persuasive speeches
    • SPAR debate
    • Congressional debate
    • SPAR debate and either one of the speeches
    • Congress and either one of the speeches

    TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

    Online Tournament Guidelines: 
    -All competitors are required to have a guardian on-screen during rounds unless they have turned in a waiver form. Judges will be instructed to require an adult guardian to be present for all competitors who haven’t agreed to a waiver. These students will not be allowed to stay in the room without the guardian (meaning, they must be present the entire time of the round).
    -All participants (judges and competitors) are required to read the SCJFL Online Tournament Participation Best Practice document that is posted here: SCJFL Online Tournament Participation Best Practice

    Double-Entry Policy:
    Competitors may not enter more than two events.

    Pattern A Events (debate):
    ●  Open SPAR and Novice SPAR (Format: 2 prep, 2-2-4-2-2)
    ●  Congress (Bills will be posted after 2/12/21)​

    Pattern B Events (speech):
    ● Informative (5 mins. – Audio-visual aids are optional)
    ● Original Oratory/Persuasive (5 mins)
    ● Impromptu (7 minute bank)
             Round 1 - Quotations
             Round 2 - Abstract Nouns 
             ​Round 3 - Concrete Nouns 
             ​​Final Round - Proverbs
    ​
    Judging Requirements:
    Parents can choose whether or not they want to participate and be a judge at this tournament. If you are not judging, you will pay an additional $70 on top of the entry fee.

    Judges will be responsible for their own judge training. ​We can still offer a brief refresher course on the day listed on the schedule, but all judges should be expected to already know what they’re in for.

    Teams who supply grossly unprepared judges will be charged a nuisance fee of $50.
    If you signed up to be a judge but do not show up on the day of the tournament, you will be charged a $100 fine.

    One event $60
    Two events $70

    If you don't provide a judge, you will pay an additional $70.

    Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

    Drop Fee

    Changes or drops after February 21st, 2021 will be charged a $10 nuisance fee. Drop requests should be made to Victor and Nadia.

    Please do not drop out last minute to avoid being charged these fees.

    ​JUDGE PROVISION

    ​JUDGING NOTES, PLEASE READ:


    If you (a parent) are willing to supply a judge by being one at this tournament, you are responsible for your own training. Feel free to use the resources below. If you opt to not provide a judge, you must pay an extra $70 fee on top of the entry fee.

    If you are judging, make sure you are available for the entire tournament schedule and please do not cancel last minute. The deadline for withdrawing from judging is the same as the registration deadline (21 February 2021). Thank you.
