Sasan Kasravi
Picture

SASAN KASRAVI is a debate instructor focusing on public forum debate. Born in Iran, he brings with him the experience of running one of the most competitive debate programs of any community college in the nation. His approach to debate focuses on applications of philosophy, particularly in the fields of logic and ethics, that have not only lead to competitive success, but also maximize the future academic value of competing in debate.

As a competitor for Diablo Valley College, he earned numerous awards at three State Championships, including gold and silver awards in 2 on 2 Parliamentary Debate and 1 on 1 Parli LD. He was also a finalist at the Phi Rho Pi National Championship Tournament in Parliamentary Debate.

As coach, Sasan is entering his fourth year coaching debate for the Diablo Valley College debate team and his second year running the debate program. Working with students with no previous speech & debate experience, he has grown the Diablo Valley College debate program to be one of the most competitive programs on the college Parliamentary Debate circuit. Most recently, his program was ranked as the 4th top community college debate team in the nation. His competitors have gone on to earn maximum scholarships from universities that include The University of the Pacific, Concordia University at Irvine, and The University of Nevada, Reno.

Outside of the college circuit, Sasan has worked with various institutions to teach critical thinking, effective discourse, and public speaking to young people. He is a long-time volunteer at Camp Quest West, a summer camp that uses hard sciences and the humanities to instill young people with analytical thinking, critical inquiry, and a foundation based in Ethics. He's also run after school programs for public speaking and debate at Lincoln Middle School in Alameda and Glorietta Elementary School, as well as serving an advisory role for the Las Lomas High School Speech & Debate Team.

In 2017 Sasan was awarded the Collie-Taylor coaching Fellowship awarded, an annual award given to one coach in Northern California to recognize outstanding contribution to the Speech & Debate community.
