    ROSEBOWL

    20 March 2021

    DEADLINE
    17 Mar 2021
    ELIGIBILITY
Open to middle and high school students
    PLATFORM
Online through Speechwire and NSDA Campus

    Information

This is an online High School tournament in Minnesota time zone.

    Hello Speech Colleagues!

I would like to offer a warm welcome to you and your team and invite you to the 22nd Annual ROSEBOWL Tournament on Saturday, March 20, 2021. This tournament is hosted by Roseville Area High School and will utilize SpeechWire with NSDA campus for a virtual tournament. The tournament will be synchronous for all categories.

We will be hosting all 13 MSHSL categories plus Program Oral Interpretation (POI) and both MSHSL and NSDA rules will be honored. This tournament also splits Extemp Speaking into a preference for Domestic/US topics and International topics, please be aware to register accordingly. We will allow double entering (including discussion and a non-draw event, but not in discussion and a draw event nor two draw events).

We will offer 3 preliminary rounds of competition, Honor Finals & Finals in all categories (all students will compete in one division).  I am excited to report that the Rosebowl is a National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) bid tournament! For many of you, this will be one last chance to earn enough bids to qualify for NIETOC! Due to this, we may offer more final rounds in Extemp Speaking and Oratory, depending on registration size. If more final rounds are offered, they will take place at the same time as the other final rounds and will not add to the length of the tournament.

I want to make you all aware that we will not be hosting an award ceremony at the Rosebowl. Following the final rounds (approximately 3:45 or soon after), results will be posted on SpeechWire as soon as possible to celebrate the success of all students!

I look forward to hosting you and your team on March 20 for this virtual tournament experience!

    Sincerely,
    Jodi Kyllonen, Roseville Speech Director

    JUDGES:
All judges are expected to be available through final rounds.
We schedule the judges based on the number of students you originally register; we cannot make accommodations Saturday morning because of drops.
Judges will be assigned their rounds through live.SpeechWire.com and then manage their competition round through NSDA campus. This is a platform within SpeechWire and does not require a separate log-in. Judges will use e-balloting to report their ranks and critique comments.

    CATEGORY INFORMATION:
Online Format: All rounds will be live. Students will compete synchronously using live.speechwire.com and NSDA Campus. We want to ensure all students have an equitible oppprtunity and so if there is any reason why students can't compete live, please reach out to Jodi Kyllonen for accommodations. We will come up with a solution for equity reasons.
Both MSHSL and NSDA rules will be honored. Please make sure your judges are aware of this.
We are splitting Extemp Speaking into Domestic and International (students cannot be double entered in both), so please register accordingly.
Since this is a NIETOC bid tournament, students with poetry pieces can be entered in Dramatic Interpretation (prose is it's own NIETOC bid category now!).
Discussion tasks will be brought to the round by each judge.  Discussion tasks will be taken from each section of the outline.

ALL DRAWS: Each of the three draw events will draw fresh for each round, including all three prelims and finals. Draws will take place on-line through Zoom. The Draw Room LInk will be sent out through live.SpeechWire.com just like the link for rounds is sent.
Extemp Speaking:  There will be separate topic areas for each round.

    Entry Price

    One speech event $60
    Two speech events $70

If you don't provide a judge, you will pay an additional $70
Registration will not be complete until payment is received.
