10th Annual Robert Garcia Memorial Invitational
Saint Francis High School, Mountain View

Welcome to the Annual Robert Garcia Memorial Invitational! We are excited to offer our tournament again after a short hiatus. Here you will find some important information regarding sign-ups and the tournament itself.

This tournament will be in-person only.

    Topics
We will use the September topic for both LD and PF.

    Judging
We prefer judges with some experience in the events but will also accept moderate-to-well-trained lay judges. Please see below for judge training resources.

    Divisions
All debates are open division and any levels are welcome.

    NOTES ON THE LOCATION:
    • You can park in the narrow lot in front of the school (Miramonte Ave) or the large parking lot in the back (South Drive off of Hospital Drive). Please do not park in the campus interior.
    •  The tournament will be centrally located at the Sobrato building (200s).  There is construction nearby but it is still easy to access this part of campus.
    • Lunch will be provided but not breakfast or dinner so please plan accordingly.
    • You can use the SFGuest wireless network.
    • Students are not to enter rooms without an adult present, this can be a judge or coach as long as all students can enter when the adult does (no coaches letting in just their own students while the opponents are forced to wait in the halls).

    Drop Fee

Drop fees will be the same amounts as the entry fee PLUS any fees the tournament charges us for late drops. Drop requests should be made to Victor and Nadia.

Please do not drop out last minute to avoid being charged these fees.

    JUDGE PROVISION

Click here to complete the highly recommended
    Cultural Competency judge training course

Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee.
You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It literally takes less than a minute.

First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.
There are also these training cards available that include a summary of each event's rules and comments.

Tournaments encourage judges to have a paradigm on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example. It doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up. For example: "I am a parent, please speak clearly and slowly and avoid technical jargon".
