    NUEVA INVITATIONAL

    9 January 2022

    DEADLINE
    2 Jan 2022
    ELIGIBILITY
Open to middle and high school students
    Public Forum only
    PLATFORM
    Online through NSDA Campus

    Information

    BEST GREETINGS FROM NUEVA DEBATE!

We hope your school will attend the fifth annual Nueva Parli Invitational, which is also the first annual Nueva Public Forum Invitational, to be held online on Sunday, January 9.  We’ll run junior and open divisions of Public Forum debate, with at least four preliminary rounds and finals.

ELIGIBILITY – We will accept middle school teams and/or high school teams. A high school debater may debate with a middle school debater from their affiliated middle school, and vice versa. We will accept hybrid teams if we receive written authorization from both school administrators.  Otherwise, students must attend the same school and must compete as authorized representatives of the school they attend.  Coaches may place teams in either the junior or open division using their reasonable discretion.

REGISTRATION is through tabroom.com.  All entries will be waitlisted pending tournament approval.  We are setting an initial limit of five teams per school per division.

JUDGES – Schools owe one judge per two entries.  Very experienced high school parli debaters may judge in the junior division, with prior approval.  All judges must have linked tabroom.com accounts, and we hope that open division judges will have posted paradigms.  A limited number of hired judges may be procured (through our Procurement Office) for $120 for the day.  We expect to have some excellent guest judges.  If you know of people we should hire, please let us know.

RULES?   Team prep and coach prep are OK.

FEES - $45 per team; $120 per hired judge; fees are frozen on January 6.  We have to take checks, payable to The Nueva School, sent to Les Phillips c/o The Nueva School, 131 E. 28th Avenue; we have to have them by Friday, January 7.

SCHEDULE --  We will have a “virtual bus” checking at 7:30 am on Sunday, January 9.  The tournament should be done by 6:30 pm.

ETC. --  The parli topic committee will be Sam Timinsky, plus whoever else we can trick into service.  We will announce a topic area for two of our rounds not later than January 1. Team and coach prep are fine.  Judges’ decisions are not subject to appeal or protest.  Public Forum will follow NSDA rules/format.

We will send more detailed information as we wend our way through the various online complexities.  Feel free to contact me with questions.  We very much look forward to hosting you!

    Entry Price

    All PF events $70
If you are opting out of judging, you will pay an additional $90

Each person in a PF team would be responsible of providing their own judge, so one PF team would need to either provide two judges, both pay the judge fee, or one of each option.
All students who drop after Wednesday will not receive refunds and drop fees are $10 each.

Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

NOTE: We will charge set up fees if we have to create tabroom.com accounts for judges. It is recommended you do so on your own.

    Schedule

Please note that all times are in EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST).

    CRYPTO Topic
Resolved: Increased United States federal regulation of cryptocurrency transactions and/or assets will produce more benefits than harms.

    JUDGE PROVISION
Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee. You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It takes two minutes.

First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.

Tournaments recommend judges to have a judge philosophy on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example (it doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up).
