    Information

We invite you to the Nano Nagle. We provide competition in Varsity Lincoln Douglas debate and Varsity Public Forum debate. The tournament will use the NSDA September/October topic for all divisions.

    THE TOURNAMENT
Once we reach the cap in an event we will start a waitlist that will prioritize new school admission and then smaller school entries.
All debate divisions will feature six preliminary rounds of debate and will clear all winning records to the elimination rounds up to a full double-octafinal. VLD will use mutual preference judging and it will be available to all school's whose judges have entered their paradigms on Tabroom. We will be policing this with increased vigor this year - and it's now fairly easy to turn off a given school's ability to pref, so please don't sleep on this rule. ALL of your judges must have a paradigm on Tabroom in order for you to receive prefs.

    LOCATION
    Presentation HS, San Jose, CA

    JUDGING
All schools are required to provide qualified, competent judges.  All judges are required to have a paradigm on tabroom.com. If you enter judges without a paradigm you are at risk of having your prefs turned off.  All judges must be familiar with using Tabroom.com for ballots and are required to do so. We will charge a $75 Fine for each judge that is unprepared and needs to be trained or have their tabroom account fixed. In the past, this has caused significant delay to the tournament. If you do not have a judge who is competent as an adjudicator *and* with using the e-balloting, do not sign them up. We'd rather solve that issue beforehand.  We will assess fines in real time.  No entry from your school will be allowed to advance to elim rounds if fees are unresolved.
Judges are obligated for one round past the exit of GSA's final entry.

    COVID POLICY
Risk mitigation in a time of COVID-19 is a collective responsibility and as we are so excited to welcome you all to our campus we hope that you will help keep us all safer by adhering to the following guidelines.

Self Monitoring & Health Authority Guidance
The tournament supports and advises following all CDC and Santa Clara County Public Health recommendations. If you feel ill please stay home. Please wash hands frequently and thoroughly. Hand sanitizer will be available at all locations where people may congregate. We will also have some tests available at the tournament for anyone who feels ill and would like to test.

    Vaccination
Nano Nagle encourages vaccination and boosting to all those available. While it is not a requirement for competitors or coaches we believe in the science of vaccination in reducing infection and severity of COVID 19.

    Masking Policy
All adults (coaches, judges, parent volunteers etc.) please wear a mask while indoors, unless eating or drinking.
All competitors please wear a mask while indoors, unless eating, drinking or competing. We recognize that some students have been and may prefer to stay masked while competing and that is fine. No judges at the Nano Nagle should penalize students who do or do not choose to be masked while competing.

    Entry Price

PF and parent is judging $100
PF and parent is OPTING OUT of judging $250

LD and parent is judging $150
LD and parent is OPTING OUT of judging $300

Each person in a PF/Policy/Duo team would be responsible of providing their own judge, so one PF/Policy/Duo team would need to either provide two judges, both pay the judge fee, or one of each option.

Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

NOTE: We will charge set up fees if we have to create tabroom.com accounts for judges. It is recommended you do so on your own.

    JUDGE PROVISION

Click here to complete the highly recommended Cultural Competency judge training course

Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee.
You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It literally takes less than a minute.

First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.
There are also these training cards available that include a summary of each event's rules and comments.

Tournaments encourage judges to have a paradigm on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example. It doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up. For example: "I am a parent, please speak clearly and slowly and avoid technical jargon".

More tournament resources can be found here.
