Max Wu
Picture

MAX WU spent 4 years competing on the Mission San Jose HS Public Forum Team, and 2 years in junior high debating MSPDP. Max has seen extensive success countrywide over his career– highlighted with a strong postseason in the 2015-2016 season, where he reached the finals of the Tournament of Champions, finishing one ballot away from being the top team in the nation at the most prestigious competition of the year. Max was also the first team in Mission San Jose's long history to qualify to the TOC in his sophomore year, helping lead the rejuvenation of the school's program after it was shut down years earlier. Among his other achievements, he has advanced into deep elimination rounds at numerous tournaments in a handful of states, and consequently been ranked as one of the national circuit's top teams by various different websites.
Outside of his personal success, Max served as the Public Forum Captain for the MSJ team in the 2015-16 school year and the President in the 2016-17 year. As captain, Max planned lessons and curricula for dozens of novice debaters, working in both one-on-one and group instructional settings to improve specific skills such as research and speech delivery. He also volunteers for baydebate, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing free speech and debate classes to low-income elementary schools across South and Central Fremont. With baydebate, Max has coached at over 4 different schools and met hundreds of students. He looks forward to working as part of the staff with the Golden State Academy.
