Class descriptions:
🥇3-6th grade - INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC SPEAKING
(Offered at both locations)
(Great for students new to speech and debate!)
Class will focus on spontaneous forms of speaking like impromptu speaking and spar debate to allow students to work on structure and general presentation and delivery skills. This is a great class for students who are still working on their writing skills as this focus more on general speaking and not prepared speech or debate formats. Electronic device (tablet/laptop) not required. Please make sure student has a notebook for notes and to practice exercises from class.
🥇4-6th grade - PREPARED SPEECH AND DEBATE
(Ardenwood only)
In this class students will now take the structure they have learned in impromptu and spar debate and apply in a prepared format. Students will either write an informative or persuasive speech and for debate, will be introduced to congressional debate where they will research and write arguments in favor of legislation that they can understand and relate to. Electronic device (Tablet/Laptop) required for class
🥇4-6th grade - INTRODUCTION TO INTERPRETATION AND TEAM DEBATE
(Mission site only)
(Recommended for students in Coach Victor's class from last year's elementary classes)
Students in this class will learn about storytelling an interpretation event that will challenge students to work on tone, facial expression and general story telling along with public forum, a team based debate event that will have students researching and debating topics from our current events. Electronic device (Tablet/Laptop) required for class.
Students can take each class more than once and trying all of them is highly encouraged. Tournament opportunities for those interested but not required.
