THE GOLDEN STATE ACADEMY FALL INVITE

    12-13 November 2022

    DEADLINE
    10 November 2022
    ELIGIBILITY
open to middle and high school
    PLATFORM
    Online through NSDA Campus

    Information

The Golden State Academy is hosting a tournament for our students to get a real taste of competition in a smaller setting. Students can compete in a variety of events. The divisions are open to anyone 6-12th grade and of any experience level. While we wish we could offer separate divisions, given how small we expect the tournament to be, it does not make sense at the time for us to provide that level of division. If we host another tournament in the future, we will make sure to do that.

     We will be utilizing the
NSDA Campus platform, we look forward to hosting you and providing a great weekend of competition. Below you will find all of the specific details relating to the tournament.

    Events and Divisions
We will offer an open division of each of the following events:
    -Spar debate
    -Impromptu
    -Declamation
    -HI
    -DI
    -Platform (OO/Info)
-Lincoln Douglas (We will be using the Sept/Oct topic for this tournament on Universal Healthcare)
-Public Forum (We will be using the Sept/Oct topic for this tournament)

    Awards and Recognition
We will email out certificates to coaches for their students that they can print. We will award all winning records in debate and top 5 in speaker awards (if numbers permit). For speech, we will award to finalist (top 7) if numbers permit. If not, it may be smaller.

    Judges
Parents may judge.  All judges must have a linked Tabroom account that  includes their phone number.

    JUDGE PROVISION

Click here to complete the Cultural Competency judge training course

Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee.
You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It literally takes less than a minute.

First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.
There are also these training cards available that include a summary of each event's rules and comments.

Tournaments encourage judges to have a paradigm on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example. It doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up. For example: "I am a parent, please speak clearly and slowly and avoid technical jargon".
