    Information

    About Beyond Resolved
Beyond Resolved is a student-led organization that advocates for all marginalized groups in high school speech and debate by raising awareness of often overlooked disparities, creating inclusive spaces, and building resources for the debate community. You can learn more about us and get involved by visiting our website: www.beyond-resolved.org.
Additionally, a huge thanks to the Golden State Academy for sponsoring this event and helping us put it together. This wouldn’t be possible without their support!

    Tournament Details
    Events and Divisions
We will only be offering one division in Public Forum, on the April NSDA Topic. This tournament is intended for debaters to practice for other April tournaments in the season, such as TOC.
    Entry Eligibility
While this is intended to be a practice opportunity for other tournaments, anyone is allowed to compete. Entries from any state are allowed. Independent and hybrid entries are allowed. Mavericks are allowed.
    Rules
We will be holding the tournament from March 27th – March 28th. There will be 5 preliminary rounds. All 5-0 and 4-1 teams will break (we expect to break to quarterfinals, but this is subject to change based on the number of entries).
All teams must be in the room by the check-in time. Judges must check to make sure cameras/mics/email chains are working before the round start time. If everyone is ready, you may begin before the listed round start time.
The forfeit time will be five minutes after the round start time.
    Technology
The tournament will be held on Discord. Further information is pending.
    Judging Requirements
    • Judges may not be a high schooler.
    Awards
We will be running this as a stakes tournaments.
Top speakers will get one free BR Georgia sticker of their choice!
    Discrimination/Harassment Concerns
A Google Form to report instances of discrimination, harassment, etc. is forthcoming. We will have the option for it to remain anonymous, but cannot guarantee action if you choose to remain anonymous.

    In Round Policy
    Observer Policy
    • All debaters and judges in the round must consent to having observers.
    • Observers must join the room with their name and school displayed.
    Recording Policy
    • Prelimination rounds will not be recorded or live-streamed.
    • Elimination rounds may be livestreamed to the Beyond Resolved Georgia YouTube channel with the consent of all debaters and judges. In this case, the round will be moved to Zoom.
    Coin Flip
    • Coin flips for PF are to be done in the room.
    Evidence Exchange
    • NSDA evidence rules require that all students have evidence immediately ready to go when requested. If evidence is paraphrased, it is required that the competitor has the specific text from the original source which is being paraphrased clearly indicated and immediately available. If it takes teams more than one minute to find and send evidence that is requested, the team looking for the evidence must take preparation time to find it. Any reading of evidence produced at a team’s request must be done within the requesting team’s preparation time. These requirements are to ensure that we stick to the schedule and avoid keeping students and judges in competition longer than their commitment.
    • Debaters must send original sources via PDF or Word document; no links directly to online articles may be shared due to paywalls, subscription restrictions, and the inability to highlight the sections read or paraphrased. Evidence must be shared as a PDF or Word document through a link in the virtual room chat box or through an email chain. Students who plan to use the email option are recommended not to use their personal email address, and instead, to create a Nationals-only account to use. The email chain should be created in the time between tech check and the round start time. Judges should be added to the email chain if they so request.
    Partner to Partner Communication
    • We recommend that all debaters be socially distanced. All in-round partner communication is to be done virtually via phone calls, messaging, etc.
    Outside Assistance
    • Participants in the National Tournament will be reminded of their commitment to the NSDA Code of Honor. During the course of a round, receiving outside assistance from any non-participant in the round, including coaches, teammates, and family members, is strictly prohibited. Any allegations of a rule violation should be submitted through the online protest form and will be handled through the adjudication panel process. Students found to have violated tournament policy may face loss of round, disqualification from the tournament, and/or notification of coaches.
    Content Warnings
    • In the spirit of creating a safe, respectful and inclusive space in every debate round, teams reading sensitive content ought to offer content warnings before a debate begins. If you are unsure of whether a content warning is appropriate, offer one. Debaters or judges who believe they will be psychologically harmed by hearing the content as described should be given an opportunity to indicate so in time to allow the debaters offering the warning to remove the triggering content.
    • Content warnings can be offered via Google Forms, text messaging, or verbally asking before a round. Please ensure that you have received a response from all parties.
    • Failure to offer anonymized content warning for arguments that are clearly triggering could subject you to disqualification.
    • Any concerns about if your argument necessitates a trigger warning or opponents running psychologically harmful arguments without a trigger warning can be directed to tournament advisors.

    Entry Price

PF and providing a judge $75
PF and opting-out from judging $185

Each person in a PF team would be responsible of providing their own judge, so one PF team would need to either provide two judges, both pay the judge fee, or one of each option.

Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

NOTE: We will charge set up fees if we have to create tabroom.com accounts for judges. It is recommended you do so on your own.

    JUDGE PROVISION
Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee. You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It takes two minutes.

First time judging? Click here to learn how to do it! Or watch our Youtube playlist here.

Tournaments recommend judges to have a judge philosophy on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example (it doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up).
