Description:
SUMMER PROGRAM 2022 LD, PF, & POLICY
Welcome to the Debate Boutique Summer Program, a place where each student has their experience tailored to their learning style and passions. Scholars across various styles of debate have the opportunity to learn in a safe environment as we are 100% ONLINE to ensure that we observe CDC guidelines and protect our students. Debate programming, for us, has always been about the individual student and cultivating an empowering and safe space for growth in argumentation and communication.

Details:

Boutique Diagnostic--
To help us accommodate to each student’s learning style and passions, we will be sending out a DB Diagnostics upon registration. Student’s will receive an in-depth diagnostic exploring their skill level, interests, values of debate, and how they best learn. We create our personalized schedules with skills drills, lecture content, and debates around these answers so we ask that student’s spend the time giving thoughtful responses.

Boutique Curriculum--
This Summer, the Debate Boutique will be running three Labs in one camp. We will have a Policy Lab, and Public Forum Lab, and a Lincoln Douglas Lab. We value the unique skills each style of debate requires and believe that a collaborative camp will provide students with a prime opportunity to gain benefits from each type of debate. Students will attend lectures and skill sessions that based on which lab they attend, while also having working with other labs during programs that are beneficial to all.
The first week will be content-rich with lectures from our curriculum catalogue as well as specific lectures for each lab to help get you ready your topic for the topic. These will be live and interactive 2-hour segments with an opening for questions and personal application concerns for negative and affirmative strategies.
Following the lecture, you will break out into your respective labs led by our Policy, PF, and LD staff where we will be using the diagnostic responses to gauge the direction of scholarship and strategy the student stated that they were interested in and beginning the process of producing files. When research and one-on-one strategy sessions are happening, there will be practice debates verse other students and the staff to help build debating skills.
An important element of our engagement will be “office hours” where you can expect scheduled time for staff to check in one-on-one session to see how you are taking in all the information and adding it into your argumentative arsenal. As well as how WE can better adapt and assist YOU in developing your strategy.

The Following Weeks:
Will be when we put the substance to work and have the students engage in practice speeches, debates, and “controversies” with the staff to really trouble shoot their strategies and sharpen their skills.
