Middle School/High School Program
GRADES 6-12
GRADES 6-12
Intermediate and advanced
Class description:
Events Offered
Interpretation: HI, DI, POI* (Sorry no OI, those seeking to keep doing OI should enroll in beginner)
Limited Prep: Impromptu, Extemp
Platform: INFO, OO, OA
*Advanced Class only
Pre-Requisites for those new to GSA:
☻Minimum 1 year or 2 semesters of competitive experience in speech or debate--either from their respective schools or other programs in the event they are choosing. Students selecting new events will be required to start in beginner unless they can demonstrate basic proficiency in the skills required for said event. Students looking to be accepted into advanced must have 2 years or more of experience and competing in varsity this upcoming year.
☻Attended a minimum of 5 tournaments/semester and demonstrated some success for intermediate. One must be a post-season tournament (State or National Championships) to be considered for advanced. Students in advanced must commit to competing at least once a month.
☻Students must submit a resume of past competitive successes and programs participated in. Along with a video performance of them performing speech or debating. We also ask for their competitive resume including copies of feedback from competition (no student will be accepted without it) Please make sure it is a complete set of ballots meaning don't leave out the bad feedback, we want to see all of it. We would appreciate a minimum of the last two tournaments they attended.
Current GSA students in who would like to be considered for intermediate/advanced must meet the class(es)' minimum requirements in order for us to consider you for review. This means that while the requirement makes you eligible for review, it does not constitute an automatic advancement into the next level. You will still be asked to turn in the same documentation as new students as well.
Note: Only 8th graders and above will be considered for Advanced classes. All 7th graders and younger can move up to intermediate only. There will be no exceptions!
If your last class was a new beginner competitive program please sign up for the returning beginner program instead.
You may sign up for up to two classes.
In addition to online classes, we will start offering hybrid classes this semester.
