intermediate/advanced SPEECH AND DEBATE


Events Offered: 

Debate:
PF, LD

Interpretation:
HI, DI, POI* (Sorry no OI, those seeking to keep doing OI should enroll in beginner)

Limited Prep:
Impromptu*, Extemp
*Those seeking to focus ONLY on impromptu can only advance to intermediate. Advanced Limited Prep will focus on extemp.

Pre-Requisites:
☻Minimum 1 year or 2 semesters of competitive experience in speech or debate--either from their respective schools, GSA, or other programs in  the event they are choosing. Students selecting new events will be required to start in beginner if offered. Students looking to be accepted into advanced must have 2 years or more of experience and competing in varsity this upcoming year.
☻Attended a minimum of 5 tournaments and demonstrated some success for intermediate One must be a post-season tournament (State or National Championships) to be considered for advanced. Students in advanced must commit to competing atleast once a month. 

☻Must be available 2x a month to meet in person with coaches on Fridays or weekends (schedule will be set each month)
☻Students advancing to these levels must submit a resume of past competitive successes and programs participated in. Along with a video performance of them performing speech or debating. We also ask for their competitive resume including copies of feedback from competition (no student will be accepted without it).

☻In summary, what we need are:
  • ​​TOURNAMENT RECORD - The complete list of tournaments you've been to and placings if any. You can also include a screenshot of the list from your Tabroom account.
  • BALLOTS - Ballots/screenshot compilations of judge feedbacks you've received from a couple of your most recent tournaments. Access it through Tabroom, then merge it into one document. This should be a compete set of ballots from atleast 2 of the most recent tournaments. This should include the good AND the bad.
  • VIDEO PERFORMANCE - Upload a video of you reading your cases or performing your speech. Google Drive or Youtube links are fine. You can also use your recent tournament recording if any.
  • WRITING SAMPLES - Blocks/cases for debate or the speech you have written if applying for Platform (write N/A if applying for Interp or Limited Prep, but you still have to submit a video).

Students who want to be considered for Advanced will need to try out. We will send out information of try outs once we receive your completed requirements and a good number of applicants overall so that we can have the try outs all at once.
​Students shortlisted will be asked to perform for coaches before making the final cut.

You may sign up for up to two classes.

​Note: Only 8th graders and above will be considered for Advanced classes. All 7th graders and younger can move up to intermediate only. There will be no exceptions!

6-12 students max per class
​Online classes we will accept as many students as we have coaches to maintain an 8:1 student to teacher ratio

​Tuition:
$1695 for twice-a-week online classes
$1095 for once-a-week online classes

PLEASE ONLY REGISTER FOR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED IF YOU ARE CERTAIN THAT THESE ARE YOUR CORRECT EXPERIENCE LEVEL.

​THOSE WHO HAVE ONLY DONE 1 SEMESTER OF RETURNING BEGINNER COMPETITIVE ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO TAKE AT LEAST 1 MORE SEMESTER OF RETURNING BEGINNER BEFORE APPLYING FOR INTERMEDIATE.
