    Information

    Colleagues,

Thank you for your interest in the inaugural Edna TFA IQT. We are excited to host you on this Opening Weekend! Some rounds will begin on Friday afternoon (Central Daylight Time). All rounds will be finished by Saturday.

We are excited to offer every TFA speech and debate contest, except Worlds. At present, we are only offering novice opportunities in Congressional Debate and Novice CX. That could change so check back periodically.

As we get closer to the tournament, we will update the schedule and general info. We look forward to hosting you!

    TOPICS
    Lincoln Douglas Debate:
    Resolved: Sept-Oct Topic

    Public Forum Debate:
    Resolved: Sept-Oct Topic

    GENERAL INFO

    Judges:
*Schools of judges who are scheduled to judge rounds and do not pick up ballots will be assessed a fee of $25 for every missed round.
Committing to a judge and then not providing that judge will result in a missing judge fee assessed on the day of the tournament.

We will not break brackets in any Debate event.

    Debate Event Topics:

    · Lincoln-Douglas Debate – September/October NSDA Topic
    · Public Forum Debate – September/October Topic NSDA Topic

Cross-Entering: All cross-entry is at your own risk.

Student Behavior: All competitors and judges are held to the rules and regulations of the Texas Forensic Association. A coach (or another teacher) from every school must be immediately available online at all times while students from the said school are competing. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in forfeiting the school from competition.

    Other Notes:
·We will make every effort as a tournament to run on schedule and will attempt to accelerate when possible. We ask for your patience and cooperation in the event that this is not possible.
    · We believe that oral critiques and disclosure are valuable teaching tools in debate. However, an oral critique does not replace a well-written ballot, as that is helpful communication at this time of the year between the judge and coach.
    · All Elims and Finals rounds will be paneled
    · The third rounds of debate will be power-matched (hi-hi).
    · Edna High School students will participate and place at this tournament.
    · Please pay attention to the TFA Constitution as it will govern this tournament. The TFA constitution can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oZr4ak505-ahZDp7Ros4hYnhsAkTColg/view

    JUDGE INFORMATION

Descriptions of each event can be found here.

Click here to complete the highly recommended Cultural Competency judge training course

Signing up a judge without having a Tabroom account will result in us charging you for the set up fee.
You can do this easily on your own by going to tabroom.com. It literally takes less than a minute.

    First time judging?
This is a great collection of short videos that one of the leagues have put together to learn each event: click here.
There are also these training cards available that include a summary of each event's rules and comments.
Click here to find other training and official certification resources. Or watch our Youtube playlist here.

Tournaments encourage judges to have a paradigm on their Tabroom account, which can be a few sentences on your preferences of debating styles, etc. See here for example. It doesn't need to be this long, but make sure to add something before you sign up. For example: "I am a parent, please speak clearly and slowly and avoid technical jargon".
