    ELIGIBILITY
    Policy only
    PLATFORM
Online through Tabroom and NSDA or Yaatly

    Information

    Welcome,
We are excited to invite you to the first Urban Debate Dragon Invitational. Our goal is to offer high level competition and high-level judging for every entrant, with a focus on accessibility and equity.
The tournament will feature 6 rounds of preliminary policy debate in the Varsity Division and in the Junior Varsity Division, which are open to entries from anywhere in the nation. Preliminary rounds will start on Friday and conclude on Saturday evening. We will break to Octo-Finals and conclude debates on Sunday like most regional tournaments.

    Competitive Info:
We will provide competition in all divisions using the NFHS 2020-2021 resolution (Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantially Criminal Justice Reform in one or more of the following: policing, sentencing, and/or forensic science.)

In JV and Varsity CX, we will host 6 preliminary debates, and advance to Octo-Finals. This year’s tournament has been designated a Finals Bid for the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky, so participants in the final Varsity round will both receive bids to attend the TOC in the spring.

Please consider entering eligible students in the JV Division so that breaking to Octo-Finals won’t be impractical due to an over-large Varsity pool.

Awards will also be given to the top speakers in all divisions.

    Eligibility for the JV Division:
This Division is designed for students in their formative years, and the eligibility requirements should reflect that. You may enter in the JV Division if you have participated in two or less years of High School Debate.

WUDL will have teams from a variety of schools participating in all divisions. We will conflict anyone who has helped a team prepare as necessary.

    Debate Times:
    Constructive: 8 Minutes
    Rebuttals: 5 Minutes
    CX: 3 Minutes
    Argumentation Prep: 8 Minutes
Tech Prep: 10 Minutes (Use only if you have technical difficulties)

    JUDGES:
You will not have to judge at this tournament. The tournament attempts to provide national circuit level competition with all judges having national experience and being qualified in their event, so we will judge on your behalf for the entirety of the tournament.

    DISCLOSURE REQUIREMENTS

    Junior Varsity
JV Teams are expected to disclose via this Google Form by 11/4/2020.
    See current disclosure here.
JV Teams are expected to use the arguments that they disclosed, even if they are not broken yet. Teams that break new arguments that are not disclosed will forfeit their rounds, this division is designed for informed clash and learning, not all out competition.

    Varsity
Varsity Teams are expected to disclose via the NDCA caselist.
Disclosure should be up to date and include complete citations. Varsity Teams are expected to add to their disclosure after they break new arguments each night after competition.
We value a wide range of pedagogical approaches to debate, but clash built on preparation is a necessary component to all of them. Openness promotes comprehension and preparation. A willingness to take part in a collective case list – in both spirit and in practice – is an essential characteristic to accepting the invitation to this competition. Case lists enhance the pedagogical and competitive goals of openness by allowing students to better understand their opponents’ arguments which is an essential component to quality clash and better debates.

*If you cannot agree with the stipulation above, we will respectfully ask that you explore other competitive opportunities on this weekend. Those that DO attend; yet attempt to evade/ignore our requests will be asked to leave. Participation in this tournament, like mutual preference judging, is a privilege, not a right.

    ANTI-HARASSMENT AND RECORDING POLICIES
We seek to provide students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying. This applies perhaps even more online than on school property, a school bus and/or physically at a school function. The WUDL maintains a firm policy prohibiting all forms of discrimination, harassment, or intimidation, based race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, military status, veteran status, disability, predisposing genetic characteristics or use of a recognized guide dog, hearing dog or service dog (as those terms are defined by law). Harassment by any person, which create an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Students are required to respect the privacy of others. Recording others, both audio and video, is potentially a violation of their privacy and of the law given that participants are minors.

The tournament will have an equity officer/team, which will be announced closer to the event.

    Entry Price

    Novice/JV Policy $180
    Varsity Policy $185

Registration will not be complete until payment is received.

You will not have to judge at this tournament. The tournament attempts to provide national circuit level competition with all judges having national experience and being qualified in their event, so we will judge on your behalf for the entirety of the tournament.
